Taking a longer view...


I found part of my design wall!  I just slapped blocks up in a random, alternate order...it will change.

I can only get seven blocks across on this piece of the design wall...one setting I am toying with is an alternating setting, nine blocks by nine blocks.  I would need forty-one applique blocks and 40 pieced blocks.  I think I have all but 3-4 pieced blocks, but I am really behind on the applique blocks.


I am having a hard time getting good pictures, so I will present them in sections.


All the blocks will finish 6 inches.





Should I sash between blocks, should I not?

I am also considering a medallion setting with a larger applique block in the center.  And some interesting alternating borders would be fun...hmmm...I have a lot to think about as I applique away.

Here are Mary and Ola's blocks in all their glory...all 6-inch blocks. I am so lucky!  They are WICKED good piecers!







































I have glued up two more blocks.  The holly one seems OK, but I might put a lighter "twig" in the squirrel block so that I don't "lose" the tops of the acorns...

Yep...I will definitely tease out that little twig and make a light brown or light green one...

My new project..."QUEEN MARY'S GARDEN © 2018"

Mary, Queen of Scots was born in Scotland on December 8, 1542.  Her parents were King James V of Scotland and the King's second wife (from France), Marie of Guise.   She is pictured above at age seven. Of all six of his children, Mary was the only child to outlive him who was legitimate of birth. At the age of six-days-old, Mary's father, the King, died.  As he had been on his death bed at the time of her birth, he never even saw his new daughter.  Nevertheless, at six days of age, Mary became the Queen of Scotland and the newest ruler from the House of Stuart.   A Reagent would rule in her place until she was older. Mary was sent to school in France, where she was taught many things including embroidery and other textile arts.  She loved needlework and had quite a talent for the beautiful variety of complicated and expressive stitches.   She was a lifelong fan of embroidery and would come to lean on her artistic abilities through her life as ...

Pictures from the AQS Fall Paducah Quilt Show...

It was a quick trip to the AQS Fall Paducah Quilt Show in Kentucky, but my first time to visit Paducah. I was blown away by the number of quilts on display, in multiple buildings, both contest and exhibition.  What I saw and could take pictures of was merely a drop in the proverbial quilt bucket.  I currently have a bit of a gimpy foot, so my viewing was limited. Next time I need to stay more than one night! I managed to get pictures of 40 quilts to share.   One of the most impressive quilts was one I couldn't get anywhere near for even one picture..."Hawaiian Improv," by Cheryl See.  It won in the large quilts, hand quilted category.   (She also won a first prize in a second category.)    Beautiful hand quilting!  It was one of the first place category winners which is involved in the voting for the super huge money prizes tonight.  You can see it on the AQS Fall Paducah web site.  The maker was giving detailed tours of her quilt to sma...
